BECOMING
A FOOTBALL OFFICIAL
Anyone interested in officiating football is invited to attend a new
members meeting at the
TJC West Campus in Tyler on July 21st starting at 6PM.
This will be an informational meeting designed to provide you with
answers to all the questions you may have about officiating football.
We look forward to seeing you there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All
other meetings will be held at LANES CHAPEL METHODIST CHURCH on July
28th starting at 6PM.
Lanes Chapel is located 3 miles south of Loop 323 on Old Jacksonville
Hwy.
The address is 8720 Old Jacksonville Hwy. The Church is located on
the left going south from the loop.
The information on this page is given as an outline of what is required and
expected from all members of the Tyler Lone Star Chapter of the Texas Association of
Sports Officials (TASO) and what the benefits of membership are. For full details on
joining please contact our Chapter President;
Kyle Rutherford at (903) 903-521-0377 or any
member listed on the Contact Page.
The first step in becoming a high school football official is to join
a local Chapter of the TASO. If you need information about Chapters
other than the Tyler Lone Star please let us know, and we will find
a contact person for you in your area. In joining the Chapter,
there are several requirements you must fulfill. Please contact
us for details. Our Chapter meetings are held Monday nights
at Lanes Chapel Methodist Church. Starting
in late July, our meetings continue through football season and conclude
for the year with our annual dinner in early November. In addition
to our Chapter meetings there are several District and Regional Workshops
given each year. Attending meetings and learning the rules and
mechanics are very important to becoming a good football official
(especially since you will have to pass a Rules Test and Mechanics
Test every year), but the best experience you can get is by experience.
There is no thrill quite like walking onto that football field as
an official for the first time.

us to get back on the field!
